Media Module

This article explains what it is for and how to use the Media module options.

The main function of the Media module is to manage the videos uploaded by users. For this purpose the module has many options and features to better organize your videos.

Options and features

Upload videos and Trash

To upload videos and review deleted videos you must select the Upload a new video or Go to Trash button in the upper left corner of the screen.

  • Upload a new video: With this button you can upload a video in 2 different ways. Selecting the file from your computer or uploading it via webdav or Media upload Web module with a limit of 20GB per file and 5:59:59 hours of maximum duration per media. The supported input formats for cloud transcoding are avi, mpg, mpeg, 3gp, flv, f4v, mp4, m4v, mkv, mov, m1v, m2v, mxf, wmv, mp3, aac, m4a, wav, ogg and wma. Mediastream transcodes to MP4 while keeping the original file in its codec, you can upload clips from 144p to 1080p.

    Note: If you upload a 4K resolution clip (2160p) the original file is kept, but transcodes from 1080p onwards.

  • Go to trash: With this button you can display the screen where your deleted videos are and see them in a list. On this page you can recover videos or delete them permanently.

Categories

You can manage categories of videos on the left side of the screen, these are used to group videos that contain similarity, common themes or are related to each other and organize them better.

You can create sub-categories as well as search by category and find the videos you need more easily. Category management in the following image:

Playlist

You can manage the Playlists at the bottom left of the screen, it is used to identify certain videos, sort them and play them.

For example, you can have a playlist of an artist, series, movies, an album, a genre, a specific year, etc. Once you activate that "playlist" you will be able to play all the videos that are under the name of that list, being able to have a better order and a better control of our videos.

When you create a new playlist you can give it certain criteria that you will have at your disposal such as name, description, associate it to a category, slug, restrictions, etc. Playlist management in the following image:

Video administration

The videos already uploaded can be found in the central part of the screen, each one with its main characteristics (thumbnail photo, thumbnail preview, duration, name, published/unpublished), sub-menu with the Quick edit, Edit and Send to trash options and a checkbox for mass selection. For the videos there's a section that manages them which has different options: All, Add to, Actions, Order by and Video view buttons

  • All: Selects all the videos from the list.

  • Add To: Add the selected videos to a Playlist or Category.

  • Actions: Change the status to published or unpublished, also Send to trash the selected videos

  • Order by: Sort the videos shown by the most popular or the last uploaded.

  • Video view buttons: Sort videos in 3 different ways: Thmbnail grids, List with thumbnail grids, list

Search

You can search according to the word you set for all videos either in the title and/or in the description, if it finds the word it will display them according to your previously established order.

Smart

It is an advanced search sub-form with more filters depending on the user's criteria. Some of the filters are: Title, Tags and categories, Duration and sort, Additional filters.
Also at the end of the search, the user has the option to convert all the videos found into a Playlist (+Save as Smart Playlist)
