The Mediastream Platform offers an innovative solution that facilitates content scheduling management. It allows you to incorporate VOD material or live broadcasts from your account and provides a quick way to integrate ad branding, thereby increasing the impact and monetization of your content. With Fast Channel, you will experience a new level of simplicity and control in planning and executing programming.

Creation and Configuration

1. Creation:

In the initial interface, press the + Create Fast Channel button.

This opens a pop-up window requesting the following information:

  • Name: name of the channel

  • Timezone: refers to the time zone of the channel to be configured, important for the timely flow of schedules. Platform displays by default the user's time zone.

  • Bumper Media: when configuring a media (VOD) in this section, it will be played in free time between the different programs, or as content in case there are gaps in the schedule content.

  • AdBreak Media: media within the account that will be played once the adBreaks are launched and the ad insertion of the live signal does not have a VAST configured.

These preferences can be edited later, but not the Timezone.

Once the different parameters are completed, press the Create button, this will add the Channel to the list in the initial interface.

NOTE: When creating a Fast Channel, a new video signal is generated by default within the live module under the same name of our channel, this signal will have by default enabled the Cloud transcoding in 1080p maximum quality (5000 kbps) (Keep in mind the cost of the live transcoding time according to the monthly fee).

2. Configuration:

Access the created channel and then proceed with its configuration:

You will initially see the following interface:

It displays the on-air signal (1), the section to adjust the schedule playlist (2) and the content explorer (3) from where you can add media and/or shows previously created by drag and drop.

a. Create Schedule +:

By clicking on this button we proceed to configure the channel programming, in the pop-up window displayed, we manage the name of the channel, its start and end time and we indicate whether it is a recurring program or not,

The Input exact duration checkbox disables the end time and enables the possibility to indicate the exact duration of the schedule:

If the recurrence option was activated, it allows to indicate the days of recurrence of the schedule, as well as information of its duration, extension in days and pending days to start. This function allows playing the same schedule during the associated time, considering that the content can be edited on a daily basis.

If the exact duration is specified in a recurring schedule, the end time is not disabled.

After validating the configurations, click on Confirm. The Schedule will appear inside the playlist, in order to ensure that the configuration is not lost, it is recommended to save the changes inside the channel. The generated schedules will not have any associated content yet.

b. Add Content +:

To add our content, you can click on the text Add Content + inside the schedule or, by dragging it from the Content Explorer section of the interface, from the latter, you can upload all the content available within a show, media or active live signals; the associated content must always be in published status.

- Add from Schedule:

Cllick on Add Content +

Define the type of content to be added, this can be Media, Live Push, Live Pull, Ad Break or Episode (Shows).

Add Media: enter the name of a media and confirm, the time is assigned according to the duration of the clip, if required, you can reduce or extend the duration of the clip.

Add Live Push: This option provides the possibility of ingesting the live input generated by default with the fast channel from source, simply assign a name, define the duration of the live push and confirm, once the channel is on air, at the indicated time, the respective signal change will be made automatically ( signal must be running for the live push to work). This option provides the publication parameters.

If a live push is configured and there is no signal emitted to the publishing point, the player will be completely black.

Add Live Pull: This option allows us to add other live signals available in the account to the Fast Channel.

Once the signal is added, the content adopts the name of the source live by default, but it can be edited as needed, and the duration can be adjusted as well.

Add Ad Break: refers to a schedule that carries SCTE-35 marks, or a media that accompanies the duration of the same and can be programmed, to configure it just assign the name and the exact duration of the content. The Ad break generates the API mark automatically, and in case an ad insertion is not assigned to the livestream, the content associated to the adbreak Media will be played during the Fast Channel configuration.

Add Episode: With this option you can add content associated to a show, initially you must type the name of the show and select it,

Once the show is available, other options are displayed, add the duration of the playback of the content, select from which season and finally, from which episode to start.

You must keep in mind that a schedule only allows you to associate episodes of one single show.

Once the content loading process is finished, save the changes, the playlist should look like this.

c. Content Explorer:

This option allows you to drag and drop content into the schedule playlist using the list of media, shows and lives available in the account.

Media: Select a clip from the list and drag it to the schedule in order to add it as content, it is configured by default with its total duration, once the content is loaded, it can be edited later.

Show: Select a show from the list and drag it to the schedule, the first episode of the first season is configured by default and all the content associated with the show is played sequentially, if the content of the show is shorter than the remaining time in the schedule, the default bumper media is played at the end of the sequence of clips.

Like media, the shows can be edited later.

Lives: when selecting the Lives tab, just drag it to the playlist, the editing is the same as mentioned when adding by content. the interface indicates if the live is online or not.

At the top of this section you will find the search engine if you have the name of the content to add, to search for a show or a specific media, you must be located within the respective tab of the section.

The different schedules will be generated within the live signal, as configured in the Fast Channel, they are editable but it is not recommended as this may affect the correct playback of the schedule in the fast channel.

Once the Schedule starts, the cloud transcoding of the created live signal is automatically activated, starting the live broadcast, and the fast Channel will indicate that the content is on air (Running).

  1. On-air signal

  2. Current and next content

Additional Fast Channel features:

1- Once it starts, you can select to view the current live signal, considering that it will have the characteristic delay of a streaming (15 - 30 seconds), just activate the Signal button.

2- Below the player, you will see the exact time at which the next content will be played.

3- Go Live Button: When switching to live mode, the associated live broadcast will be played instead of the scheduled program. this option can be disabled at any time, and is useful in the case of emergency broadcasts. If pressed by accident, platform will give an alert in a pop-up window.

4- Go Ad Break Button: this option enables the ad break assigned over the signal of the current content, emits the ad insertion if configured or, if not, the ad added when configuring the Fast Channel at the beginning,

The interface displays the remaining time set in the ad break and gives the option to stop it.

5- Options: Allows you to change the fast channel preferences, but the changes made will be reflected in the next schedule,

The Fast Channel can be deleted in this option, doing so will automatically delete the live signal created, the change cannot be reversed.

6- Time shifting: this option allows you to change the start time of the content following the current one in case it is adjusted during its playback or before starting; there are several ways to make use of this feature:

  • Editing content: Click on the three dots on the right of the content and indicate Edit Item, simply adjust the time initially configured and immediately the next content adjusts its start time.

If it is an episode type content, it can be adjusted from Edit Item or from Edit Source, the result will be the same.

  • Move content from playlist: just click and drag the content up or down, the start times are automatically adjusted.

The result in both cases will always be the same

Example images of applied Time Shifting

7- Edit Source Ad breaks: This functionality allows you to replace any source adbreak configuration, to apply it, click on the 3 dots to the right of the item and select the option (Only media, episode and Live content).

In the Add a new rule + pop-up window, there are 3 types of rules:

  • Absolute Seconds: insert the ad break over the content in the seconds assigned in position, you must indicate the duration of the ad break.

  • Porcentual: inserts the ad break during the content in the percentage assigned in position.

  • Ad Markers: this rule assigns an automatic SCTE-35 marker and takes the VAST configured within the live ad insertion, the associated markers are configured in the media associated as content to the Fast Channel but, it does not inherit the ad midroll assigned within the latter, these ad markers may occupy more time than expected in the associated media. Positioning cannot be adjusted; this type of rule is not available in Live signals.

Ad marker type rules, overlaps the VAST of the Ad insertion on the content being played.

When adding the Absolute seconds and/or porcentual rules, the item will show a red alert in the playlist.

8- ADS: For the use of advertising on the Fast Channel, live signal configurations will prevail, ads configured in the VOD content will not be inherited, this is because they become part of a live broadcast, any required ad must be configured within the livestream generated by the Fast Channel, either ad server or ad insertion (SSAI).

The ads settings must be assigned to the signal prior to the start of the schedule in the fast Channel, if, during the playback of a program, changes are made to the live signal, they will be taken into account from the next configured schedule.

The ads assigned are configured as ad server for preroll and as ad replacement for the SSAI, if for any reason, the VAST in these ads do not have a campaign, the Fast Channel will play the ad break configured for this purpose.

Notes to consider:

  • All content added within the Fast Channel schedule is reflected as separate schedules in the live streaming signal, for media content the name of the content taken into consideration, Ad Break content does not create a schedule within the live stream.

  • The live streaming signal is activated automatically at the beginning of the schedule, before and after it, the Bumper media will be configured in case there is no content during the beginning or end of the schedule.

  • Once the schedule starts, the cloud transcoding starts automatically with the configured signal.

  • You can start cloud transcoding and stream to it before the start of the program, but as long as Go Live is not indicated in the fast Channel, only the Bumper media will be seen on air. In addition, when starting live broadcasting prior to the beginning of the programmed schedule, the fast Channel enters Running mode.

  • It is not possible to fast forward the content in playback configured within a schedule.

  • All VOD and Live contents must be in published status, otherwise they will not be displayed in the Fast Channel.

  • If an ad_episode or ad-media is configured but is set longer than the actual duration of the content, the bumper media is played when the content ends.

  • There is no relation between live and VOD resolution, you can load a VOD at 720p and have the live signal in 1080p or the opposite ( consider for video quality if the VOD content has a SD resolution).

  • If content is added at the end of the time assigned to a schedule, it will not be shown as content in the live signal or as an upcoming event in the Fast Channel, but it will be played at the end of the program.

  • If there is only one content assigned to the playlist, and it ends before the time assigned in the schedule, the cloud transcoding will remain active, it is recommended to turn it off and leave it only on enable.

  • If the live signal is stopped during the fast channel free space, the bumper media playback will stop (only if live signal is being broadcasted).

  • If cloud transcoding is stopped and completely disabled, and then enabled again, the fast Channel will not play the content associated with the schedules, only the bumper media assigned to the channel will be shown; on the other hand, if a live signal is emitted, this will be displayed instead of the bumper media, in the live signal. Schedules are created in the live signal but will not be played back.

  • As of the current date, schedules can only be created within the next 7 days.

  • If the schedule starts, but no changes have been saved in the fast channel configuration, the fast channel will not play the video.
